Hola, ricos y suaves.
So, I went to Mexico for a week to escape the daily grind of dashing little kids’ dreams, and what I discovered is that the best part of Mexico, far and away better than beaches and daiquiris and speedy mice, is Spanish-language music videos. And the best music video I saw down there (and I say this without a smidgen of irony) was for a song called “DON” by a little band called Miranda!
Go ahead and watch the video now. I’ll wait.
Okay, now let’s discuss why this video is great:
1) The gradual sexualization of the dorky Mr. Bean look-alike lead singer.
2) The song is catchy as hell. I don’t understand a word of it and I’m hooked.
3) The band is called “Miranda!” with an exclamation point. Whenever yout talk about this band, you have to shout!
4) This video features hot nurses. That’s right. Miranda! was not afraid to GO THERE.
5) The holy guitar solo.
6) Dancing with bedpans.
7) My favorite part: the throbbing finger hearts.
The song seems to be a big hit in Mexico, and on youtube, with a live version (highlight: flying guitarist), a remix and a dumb parody (highlight: fart joke). Does anybody know who these guys are or what this song is about? Are these guys dorky-therefore-cool (like Weezer) or cool-therefore-dorky (like Good Charlotte)? Enquiring minds want to know!

According to their Wikipedia, they got their start in an “underground” music scene, and they got into trouble because of their overly sexual lyrics (I think one controversial line translated to “I want you to lie to me when I ask your age”).
So, the content certainly doesn’t sound Good Charlotte like. Although, the only Good Charlotte song I know has those lyrics that were in that Jay Z song, something about throwing your hands up.

I only get two channels on my TV, both in Spanish. The upside to this is that I actually got to see this video roughly a year ago and it moved my sis and I to dance like idiots. The other upsides to Spanish TV are more passionate world cup commentaries and seeing Police Academy in Spanish (far more entertaining).

i looked up the lyrics and tried to translate. my spanish may be off a little or a lot but this is what i got:

hey there. that translation of the don lyrics is pretty good, i can help with the few words you dont know though…. here it is (copied and pasted of course. coz thats how lazy i am). if anyone has correections, do it! and can i just say, i LOVE this song, and the video with the hot nurses and bedpans. they also have a great song and another cool video called el profe.

God, I’m from uruguay (next to argentina) and seeing that has made me laugh a lot, these guys are from Argentina, they have been playing for some years now and that song was a huge hit, let alone the famous line ‘ es un solo, es la guitarra de lolo ‘
