I can't wear scarves because they get caught on my beard in an uncomfortable way. This might be because when I wear them I wear them around my face and not around my neck, but then again, I don't really have a neck to speak of.

So I just decided to rename this thread instead of making a brand new topic since I'm pretty sure that with this board the new thread is just going to die quickly and ignominiously.

Anyway, fashion. I'm pretty much in love with this slideshow from the NYTimes.

Post other favorite slideshows/photoshoots/whatever! Also discuss fashion, I guess.

For a second I wondered if that was a real tin-type photo from the Victorian era, but it obviously isn't. I guess part of it's the posture, and certainly the long hair on the one guy. It's interesting how people have changed over the decades, and how apparent it can be even when you put them in period dress and backgrounds and photograph them with old technology.

I want to go to college with Kevin.

ALSO: I've had a scarf obsession since i posted that photo in this thread. Scarves and cheap pashminas. They really make a plain black top and jeans look so much nicer.

@Shoeverine: I think there's also the scrunched up model-y expressions. I seem to remember real tintypes had much more blank expressions because it took effort to maintain something like "Blue Steel" frozen for the ten minutes it took for exposure time. The models do look much too casual.

Also, they probably didn't use old technology for the shoot...Photoshop can do all of that 10 times easier.

Post Re: Of Scarves and Wearing Them [Fashion thread]
So yesterday in a moment of weakness I wound up blog-surfing through pictures of this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show.

The outfits were fabulous, and the models looked like...well...models, except that for some reason their makeup had been done so their faces looked like cheap, awful overdone whores. I'm pretty sure these are beautiful girls, what the hell went wrong? (Please ignore the terrifying elbow, I find the face more frightening.)

Also, what are these people smoking and can I have some of it:
Quote:
The show features five sections of twelve outfits each — this year's themes are Star Trooper, All Aboard, Pink Planet, Enchanted Forest, and Romantic Journey. As show stylist Charlotte Stockdale explains it: “We came up with the idea of this girl who lands from outer space in Paris. She gets on a train that comes to a halt in Pinkland, where pink girls get on and off. Then they go into this fairy-tale forest and little lady bugs and butterflies land on them and vines grow up on their clothes. Then, there’s Tick-Tock Time; the wings in this section are based on clocks — there’s one modeled after a pocket watch with metallic feathers. And she ends up in this regal realm of princess-ness, where the wings have Swarovski jewels and peacock feathers.”

Cue my semi-regular bewilderment at the ridiculous affectations of Fashion People.

I like the concept for this shoot, from V Magazine.

I know, it's so gorgeous and fabulous. European couture has gotten into such a rarified, abstract realm, there's almost nothing for me to relate to. I wish there was some reach back to the amazing fashions of history, especially the history of non-Western countries.
