If you haven't seen The Times of Harvey Milk, i would see that before seeing this one. it is quite a film.

Harvey Milk's son said that he could not see this movie. Neither will Mayor Moscone's son (both because it would be too much to handle.) Apparently, Moscone's son walked out during the documentary because he couldn't handle it.

Also, I hope they don't demonize Dan White too much, though it's obviously necessary. I just have this weird pet peeve about any character -- fictional or real -- just being cast off as an evil person. the point of a movie should never be: "Some people are bad for no reason."

publicly december 5th i think.
i remembered this film today because my attention was brought to a facebook group that gives out free passes to advance screenings of movies, and this was one of the ones up there. i sent an urgent message requesting a pass when they're available. i would love to be able to brag about seeing this before my gay uncles did. they changed their last name to harvey.

i find myself all too often using imdb user ratings to judge films. ratings like these remind me why that is such a bad idea:

Yes, there's nothing quite like the IMDb users who want to show their support or express their moral outrage for a film that won't come out for another four weeks.

well i got my pass today for a screening of it in two weeks, and based on the one or two reviews already posted it must have been screened some places already, but i'm sure a good amount of the votes are exactly that.

It looks like it's played in one festival so far and there have no doubt been a few test screenings. But I'm sure that's where most of the ratings between 2 and 9 come from. I doubt it is either the perfect 10 nor the dismal 1 the majority of those IMDb denizens rated it.
