In listening to "The First Baseball Game," I was reminded of PDQ Bach's "New Horizons in Music Appreciation: Beethoven's Fifth." Anybody heard it? Agree, disagree? Too obscure? Not really classical music?

I have not heard it, though I do enjoy some PDQ Bach from time to time. (The radio show he does under his real name is fantastic.) Any way you could share it with us?

Wow, I am sorry my favorite song is not original enough for you. It is not my fault that other people happen to like the same song I do. Sorry Das Lied der Vergessenen Welt isn't classical music or that Fur Elise is popular too or that Bolero de Ravel just doesn't do it for me as much. This is a thread about classical music, my favorite song happned to be a classical song, so I posted. I'll stay out of her from now on, sorry for bothering you with my unoriginal opinions.

Oh, that was funny. I actually like the song too, but it seemed like such a typical thing to say. I hope you weren't terribly offended, because I still love you just as much as before.

Sorry to keep going back to this guy, but has anybody heard PDQ Bach's version of the song? It's not so much a version of Pachelbel's song, but people talking over it as background music. I like it because it's the most random collection of instruments, such as snare drum, bassoon, violin, flute, and marimba it seems.

My mom would love this thread. Her iTunes library is 1,100 songs long and it's mostly classical, with some KD Lang and Diana Krall thrown in there for good measure. I, however, know very little about classical music.

Jenny, I thought you played flute. There has to be some classical knowledge in that.

On Thursday, I had a noon chamber music concert with the trumpet ensemble I am in. It was a great performance. We played the theme from Rocky and Bullwinkle, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, and a more esoteric piece entitled "Music for 5 Trumpets."

Well, I know stuff like how to read music and whatnot, but that's not really classical music knowledge. We didn't play a lot of classical music in band (surprisingly enough, now that I think about it). I don't really know composers or individual songs, though (unless they are well known, and even then my knowledge is sketchy).

I played clarinet. I have 2 guitars, used to have a drum set, and a keyboard. I have mostly dated guitar players. It is like a have guitradar.

Sorry to chastise you, contra, I was just especially put off by your comment.

My favorite composer is Bach, by far. My favorite piece is The Goldberg Variations, though I am also partial to the Cello Suites. (Not such a big fan of the woodwind stuff, though I haven't really explored it as much.) I also enjoy Shostakovich, and love Wagner. Unfortunately, I don't listen to nearly as much classical music as I did last semester, when I was working on my senior thesis constantly -- classical music isn't as well suited to my activities these days.

Can we please just call him Engrish? I'm so not used to this!

Wagner is probably my favorite. I grew up on the ring cycle. I don't listen to much classical music, but I do appreciate it. I love the band Muse, which merges classical influence and modern rock.

Some of the Romantic composers are really off-putting for me. I've been tending lately more to lighter Baroque and Classical pieces (of course, it helps that I've had one of Mozart's violin concertos stuck in my head for the last TWO WEEKS thanks to my orchestra) and I'm getting fascinated with Bach's violin pieces. I love the layers.

I don't think the piano classics CD helped me on this test. Sad

That's because the Mozart effect was never proven. It just makes you feel good about yourself for listening to awesome music. If that made any sense.

It works because I think it works. I am all about psyhosomatic. But it has worked on ever test to date. I even take my tests with the same pencil, my luck crack bunny pencil. I wear the same shirt for every test, as well.
