Oh man... i just got back from Paul McCartney!
It was so amazing i can't even talk about it yet. i havent gotten over the initial shock. wait i can talk a little:
It was so much fun, my voice is totally gone, and blackbird was practically spiritual.

Paul McCartney is immortal.

the only crazy thing that happened was that the ladies sitting behind me asked Mira, Claire and I to sit down. What?
they were crazy.

Lily and I have been listening to the Beatles a lot lately. We've also got an ongoing argument between the two of us that we hope you can resolve. We posted this little survey on our blog about two months ago, but here it is now, finally for the wider public in this long dead thread:

1. After "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," what do you think is the Beatles' most widely known/acclaimed album? Bonus points if you list the Beatles studio albums in order from most acclaimed/well-known to least. (Also, feel free to dispute "Sgt. Pepper's" standing as #1, if you'd like.)

2. Name the top ten most widely known Beatles songs. It shouldn't be "favorites" or "best," but most recognizable/ubiquitous to your average music fan.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. We promise not to break up over your answers.

I always thought that the White Album was the most well known/acclaimed album. I would have put Sgt. Pepper's second.

And as for the top 10... I'm not sure I could put them in any particular order, but probably... this is hard. I'm probably going to fail.

Help
A Hard Day's Night
Yellow Submarine
Penny Lane
A Day in the Life?
Eleanor Rigby
Across the Universe
I Wanna Hold Your Hand
I Am The Walrus
Hey Jude

I know I'm probably forgetting some really vital songs.

I was going to say the White Album before I saw Kaydria's post. As for songs...

Yellow Submarine
Yesterday
Eleanor Rigby
Help
Helter Skelter
Hey Jude
I Want to Hold Your Hand
Let It Be
Love Me Do
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

And I'm not sure if "Twist and Shout" counts, but that would be...number 11? This is hard.

It's a weird song, it doesn't really fit in with most of their other stuff.

It fits in okay with Hey Jude, I think.

Sort of, but I think you can classify Hey Jude as Rock and Roll, whereas Yesterday is sort of a...ballad? A lament? Some kind of non-rock sad song.

I'd actually say Abbey Road after Sgt. Peppers. But I might be doing favorites instead of most acclaimed.

now then, for top well-known 10 songs, in no order:

Come Together
Let It Be
Eleanor Rigby
When I'm 64
I Am the Walrus
Hey Jude
Yellow Submarine
Yesterday
Help
All You Need Is Love

It's hard to narrow it down to 10, 15 might be an easier number.
