And his 50 states project. Has anyone listened to Michigan or Illnois?

I heard it kicked ass

I didn't know he had a 50 states project. I have Greetings from Michigan, and I like that pretty much.

ok, i posted that before actually ever really listening to him. i'd just heard snippets on NPR.

but i actually like it. its kind of folksy.

concerning the song "casimir pulaski day" on the illinois cd, are we really the only ones who celebrate that?

Yeah, he's going to make an album for each state, apparently. That would be something else if he pulled it off

I have everything he's ever made, plus a bunch of rarities and nine live shows. I listened to all of Illinois today--twice.

My general reaction to Ben's musical recommendations is to ignore him for a year and then fall in love with the artists slightly after most indie/hipster/college listeners have discovered them, but slightly before Zach Braff decides to put them in his movie.

I haven't heard any of Sufjan's older stuff besides for what Ben played for me a year ago which I found really depressing. I love Illinois though, maybe because it's a little more poppy and accessible. I'm the fan that bands get when they're in transition, right before they're ready to really sell out.

i was listening to illinois today, and the song "john wayne gacy jr." came on. ive always thought that was really pretty, but i just realized that john wayne gacy was a serial killer who dressed up like a CLOWN. i am never listening to that song again, ill get nightmares.

I have two things to say about Sufjan Stevens.

The first being that he is incredibly hot.

The second being that my favorite song of his has got to be "The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us! "

Listen to it now!

Ok, I finally bought "Come on Feel the Illinoise" earlier this week. It's everything I thought it would be and more. It's great. Very, very great. I'm really excited for the next state

I think A Sun Came is his best, personally, but I love Michigan and Illinois.

I love the ridiculously long track names on Illinois, it's very endearing.

I love the idea of his 50 states project, but I doubt he'll be able to do it. Considering he's in his 20s and it takes him about a year to come out with a cd, he'd be pretty damn old by the time he finished.

I just downloaded a bunch of his stuff the other week, and I like it alot, it's really relaxed.

I also like his idea to make a CD for every state.

I discovered him quite a while back and was terribly bored by him--I only got through about two and a half songs.

Listening to him now makes me realize just how much my musical tastes have changed over the past few years. For the better, I think. He may be my new favorite. He's good for driving, sleeping, and thinking. I'd like to use him as 24/7 background music.

I think Majesty Snowbird is probably the greatest song ever written. The melody is absolutely unbelievably flowing and epic. I like his other work too as well as the related group My Brightest Diamond. I'm going to go look for CDs now.

There's a link a live Majesty Snowbird mp3 at the bottom of this page.

they had a little section of him in this magazine I got...I think it was the smithsonian or something...can't remember - but the whole article was about young Americans paving the way for the future and what not...

Hey they wrote the magazine not me. Actually they did some relatively older people featured in there as well...

Listen all I know is all the magazine had in it was profiles of all sorts of people including Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor, and a whole bunch of other people. You know Documentarians, Astronomers, Mathematicians....

Unbelievable! Fantastic! Phenomenal! Better than the first time I saw him, if that's even possible. Sufjan is truly a god on earth.

lord god bird is a pretty sweet song, but you need to listen to at least 4 songs to really get a feel of him, in my opinion... his style is rather eclectic
