Isn't that because of animal torture?

yeah, it was. they also banned (i don't remember what it's called) the really cheap slash really really unhealthy oils in to be used in restaurants. the mayor got really pissed that there was a lot of stuff wrong with the city and that's what they were focusing their energy on.

Yeah, it has something to do with the way they force-feed the ducks to fatten them up. (But then we also kill them and eat them). I really want to try some! Everyone says it's wonderful!

(Do you think they'll ban foie gras everywhere, eventually?!?)

no, i don't think that.

i was fed up with that because you can get foie gras that isn't force fed and it's just as delicious. banning it everywhere means people can't even have that. i don't condone animal cruelty at ALL but i wish that humanely treated foie gras could be available.

and they will never ban it in france, iain. you're safe.

ps. it depends on what you think about the process too. most experts say that the ducks or geese aren't bothered by it since they don't have gag reflexes like us. they say it's like a human having an IV. except for a totally different purpose...

Trans fats aren't poison like a lot of people I know make them to be, but it's good to eat less of them so it doesn't matter to me.

Somehow that makes it seem so much worse. *tips a 40*

did you read about what happened after the ban? all these hole-in-the-wall restaurants started serving foie gras the day after, and mostly places that never sold it in the first place.

yeah, don't get me started on this. i think all animals we eat deserve to be treated much better than they are and i think it's ridiculous that foie gras was singled out when there is so much trouble with everything.

Hey, if they have a nice life and are happy and then happen to be delicious, I say go for it.

As for the ban, I think it's great that the government is looking out for everyone's well-being (as for healthcare... well at least they're starting somewhere, right?)

How does one judge the happiness of a duck/goose?

I would say a good life constitutes having space to roam around with other animals and not having food forced into them.

Every time I go to the US, I never eat.
I'm scared.
The food laws here are sanitary, opposed to some of them there.

There is a certain oil in chips to give it a longer shelf life, however, if you eat enough of them, they cause anal leakage.
Tasty.

Actually, i went to a Jack in the box one time in Seattle, becasue we dont have those here, and it was terrible. It was super freaking greasy, the portions were ginormous. It was pretty repulsive.

Anyways, I think it's good that they ban the trans fats.
Even if it is just one remote area.

I'm not sure if i'd describe NYC as "remote." I hope other cities follow the trend.

Are you really comparing the size of one city, compared to the rest of your country as a large area?

Nope!

I'm just saying it's not remote.

It's going to be a cold day in hell before the American south gives up its fatty foods. I was in San Antonio over Thanksgiving break and it really is the fattest city in America.

hey typhoid, maybe you shouldn't have gone to a restaurant that is obviously horrible? please don't base all your US food ideas on that. we have so many of the best restaurants in the world and a lot of cities have great laws. Seattle, for one, has amazing sanitary laws. We're a large country just like you are just because on a nationwide level we don't make the same laws doesn't mean they don't exist.

also, you really should try eating. you're living next to what is becoming one of the top culinary cities in america, take advantage of it.

i'm assuming you went to the one of the two on broadway because they're the only ones i know of so i'd say you could guess because they're dirty and run down and the menu is crap and it's a fast food chain. all those things should tell you that it's horrible.
