My lucky bamboo is dying and it is honestly making me want to cry. I've had it, healthy, for 3 years and now all of a sudden all it's leaves are turning yellow.

I LOVE this plant. It became my pet when my dog died and now my heart is breaking a little. What do I do? I think I'm going to try to plant him. His name is Pai Mei, by the way. I named him after the Kill Bill character because he is [was? Sad] so hearty that only poisoned fish heads could kill him. And now he's dying!! It wasn't supposed to end like this.

Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

lucky bamboo isn't actually bamboo at all and it's very trendy which means it's more readily avaible which means it might not be as healthy as you'd like it to be. that being said, yellow leaves are a sign of too much water or too little water. since it's lucky bamboo, which loves water, i'd guess it maybe has a little too little water. is it in bright light? have you trimmed it recently? are you keeping it in water or in soil? all these things could have something to do with it.

i hope it gets better!

i've had a lucky bamboo named Herbert for two years, and he's doing okay (even when i'm a neglectful parent and he goes without water for awhile). i also have a christmas cactus named Wilhemina, she will be blooming soon!

I thought your love cactus was hot sauce when I saw it as a small pic.

----

I keep him in water, always covered. I never changed his water until a few months ago, when I had to move him into a larger/sturdier vase. I read a forum that said "too little or too much water" but I don't think that's it. I read another forum that said "It could be an abundance of root, the yellow is trying to tell you he wants to be planted" which is what my father said 2 weeks ago, but I ignored him.

I've never trimmed him before, I just removed the yellow leaves last week and it seems that his other stalks are turning now. He has 3 separate stalks. One big, one medium, and one little. There is a new stalk growing from the bottom of the smallest[the sick] stalk. I couldn't get them apart because the roots are all tangled together, so whatever happens, it must be for the good of the 3.

I'm so sad. Should I try planting him? I hope this made sense, because I'm going to click submit now and proofread later.

you can certainly try planting him, and you might try giving him even more water. i'd say just keep trying to do things and see what helps!!

and yeah, i've heard people say it looks like hot sauce before. sillies.

The only plant that's ever died on me without me (secretly) wanting it to, was a tiny little cactus.

All my other plants (And I have lots. Im a fan of the green) are alive, and well. And have been, in some cases for close to 15 years.
Thats right, I got plants on my 4th birthday. What's it to ya.

If you'tr having trouble with a plant and want to keep it alive, read up on it.
Or just make sure it's near a window, where you draw the blinds to give it sunlight, and water it regularily.

Meh, it's a blanket statement.
I guess I should either start posting more again, or reading post dates.

To bring back an old thread...

I recently planted a stargazer lily and a mint plant in my room.

The mint plant hasn't sprouted yet, which worries me.(Though it isn't past the period of germination.)

My lucky bamboo is going strong, but my bonzai is having some trouble. The new growth is all good and strong, but some of the old growth turned brownish. It's getting green again, though. A friend of mine took it home over break because it needed to be watered and I think the change messed it up.

Hooray!

p.s.- I'm told I can't bring Pai Mei to Hawaii with me. That makes me sad. You know who else I won't be bringing: Winston. *sadface*
