Ah, that's a shame. I just listened to something by the mountain goats a second ago.

Thank you Lily for starting this. Definitely one of my favorite artists. I like:

Palmcorder Yajna
Jenny
Best Ever Death Metal Band out of Denton
The Young Thousands
Source Decay
No Children

Among many others.

Also, they're amazing live. John Darnielle is hilarious. His banter with the audience and his bassist is endlessly amusing.

There was a cool article in the New Yorker about the Mountain Goats recently, but the link I had doesn't work anymore (the issue was May 16th I believe). Lily sent it to me.

Dave, we have many of the same favorite songs. Mine include, but are not limited to:
Jenny
Palmcorder Yajna
Song for Dennis Brown
No Children
Dance Music

And others, I'm sure.

PS. John Darnielle's website, Last Plane to Jakarta, is awesome. He's a great writer, even if he mostly writes about death metal bands.

I don't know if I have a copy on this computer. I also only heard it live, and it's not on the LP that I bought at that concert. It might be on my laptop, though. I'll check as soon as it's fixed.

Edit: That thing about only hearing it live might not be completely true, depending on whether or not I have it somewhere. We'll see, I guess.

I just bought this album today and it really is amazing. I listened to it from start to finish, twice. "The Sunset Tree" is one of those few, rare albums that you can listen to from front to back...I'm rambling. Anyway, 5 stars.

Hah, to each his own. But I do recommend that you give him another chance. I guess it may depend on which CD you've been listening to.

Lily and Dave: Your mission! Pick out some Mountain Goats songs and send them my way. I didn't listen a whole lot to the samples and I'd rather like to think that they're good since you always talk about them. So send me some music and I'll give them a proper listening to.
