I saw them last weekend in philly...quite an interesting set. John played acoustic alone for awhile, and then the band came in. It was god damn depressing. Apparently he canceled his austrailia tour because of health reasons. My friend said he's dying.
But. This band has definitely been the one to bring my friends together at times. There were about 10 of us at the show.

he's not dying but he is pretty sick and he's cancelled not just the austrailian tour but ZOOP and a couple of other things he was planning on doing. he said what he's dealing with will take up his energy this year but he's planning on touring again.
dave and i saw them earlier on this tour in seattle and it was really great. i think the new album is fantastic.

yea, the new album is great. I was upset that he really didnt play a lot from it, or play stuff that I knew. He played a lot more obscure depressing stuff.
Well, I'm glad he's not dying. And it's good that he's taking a break to catch up with himself and such. I'm content with just seeing him that once.

Truth be told, I'm not crazy about the new album. It's got three or four really great songs, but as a whole I think it sounds pretty ordinary. That said, it's still like my fifth favorite Mountain Goats album, which is saying something.
